Organic Total Body Cleanse Diet
A whole foods diet which consists of whole vegetables and fruits, whole grains and non-saturated fats is a natural way to cleanse and rid the body of toxins. The fiber from the vegetables, fruits and whole grains move waste out of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract while providing nutrition. Start with a cleanse of seven days if you have never done a cleanse before.-
Why Do a Total Body Cleanse?
-
If you have less than one bowel movement a day or experience constipation on a regular basis, such as having three bowel movements per week, you can probably benefit from a total body cleanse. Symptoms such as bloating, indigestion, flatulence or minor abdominal pain can all signal less than optimal digestion and detoxification.
Doing a total body cleanse can improve your ability to digest and move waste through the GI tract.
If you have any serious medical issues or chronic diseases, get medical clearance from your doctor first.
Eat a Whole Foods Detox Diet
-
Carrie L'Esperance, the author of "The Ancient Cookfire: How to Rejuvenate Body and Spirit," and Dr. Elson Haas, who wrote "The New Detox Diet," both discuss whole body cleanses in their books. Each recommends eating a diet of seasonal whole vegetables, fruits and whole grains such as brown rice, millet, oats, quinoa and groats. They also advise consuming non-saturated fats such as olive, canola, flax seed, hemp seed and fish oils. You can try the total body cleanse for seven to 10 days and consider joining a group that is doing a body cleanse for moral support and to exchange nutritional tips.
Consume Detox Herbs
-
Drink detox teas that contain herbs such as buckthorn root, fennel seed, dandelion leaf, senna, red clover and other herbs to help you cleanse. Several brands of commercial teas have different combinations of detox herbs: follow the manufacturer's instructions. Some teas are very strong and only one cup per day is adequate, while you might consume two or three cups of another brand.
Carrie L'Esperance suggests buckthorn root and includes recipes for other detox teas in The Seasonal Cookfire, if you want to prepare your own at home.
