Detox Reactions
While undergoing a detox or cleanse, the body gets rid of built-up toxins. Toxins are mostly found in fat cells and tissue throughout the body, and releasing them through the blood or sweat may cause bodily reactions after the first few days.-
Function
-
The purpose of a detox is to rid the body of toxins. However, as they are released through blood or sweat, they can affect other organs on their way out.
Headache
-
A headache is one of the most common detox reactions, because the blood becomes thickened due to the removal of toxins through the bloodstream. Drinking plenty of water will reduce headaches during detox sessions.
Cold & Flu Symptoms
-
The body might experience cold or flu symptoms such as muscle and body aches, sweating, nausea and chills--known as the Herxheimer reaction. This is caused by the removal of parasites, pathogens or viruses that are being released from the body.
Bad Breath
-
Those who undergo a detox often have bad breath as a result. During a detox, waste may be passed through the lungs, since it works as an elimination organ. Use mouthwash or brush the tongue frequently during a detox to reduce reaction symptoms.
Lack of Energy
-
Since the body is fasting or reducing food during a detox, there will be a lack of energy. The heart works at a slower pace, lowering blood pressure and thickening blood. Blackouts may occur after sudden movements, as well as dizziness. Reduce activity levels during a detox to conserve energy.
