Raw-Food Detoxing

One of the best ways you can cleanse and detox your body without fasting is by adopting a raw-food diet. This is a much gentler way to cleanse than a fast, because it's not as drastic a change and doesn't produce a "healing crisis," which is a bodily reaction to a sudden dietary change that can cause diarrhea, nausea, headaches and acne. To tackle this diet, incorporate raw fruits and vegetables into your menu slowly, while merely eliminating some of the more unhealthy foods such as red meats, refined sugars, alcohol and caffeine. Then, you'll replace more and more of your diet with raw foods until you're completely raw. This slow transition doesn't shock your body, yet still provides the same cleansing effects.

On the raw-food diet, you can pretty much eat any raw fruit or vegetable you want. They will make up the majority of your diet. However, other foods like nuts, seeds, olive oil, goat cheese and dried fruits can be incorporated as well to add more variety and additional protein. There are even substitutes for other foods such as crackers and breads derived from raw materials like flax. If a total raw diet isn't for you, there are cooked meals you can eat that still offer cleansing benefits like steamed vegetables, soups and brown rice. Sorbets and chocolates are often recommended as desserts.

Committing to a raw diet works well as a cleanse because it doesn't ask as much from your digestive system as cooked food does. Plus, everything you eat is high in nutrients, water and fiber content, keeping your colon clear and your bowel movements regular. With a healthy colon, other parts of your body, including your liver and kidneys, are encouraged to detox. After committing to a raw-food diet, or at least a partial one, you'll have more energy, clearer skin and a healthier digestive tract.
