What to Eat for a Whole Body Cleanse

A whole body cleanse targets congestion and toxicity throughout the systems of the body. Particularly targeted are the digestive system (notably the colon and the liver), the endocrine system and the lymphatic system. A whole-foods cleanse of a few weeks duration can increase energy and well-being without stressing your body.
  1. What You Will Need

    • Investigate herbal teas. Raspberry, peppermint and cranberry teas are known for their detoxifying properties. You can mix all three together and drink four cups throughout the day.

Purchase organic omega-3 eggs, organic parsley, garlic, cilantro, lemons, onions, flaxseed oil, psyllium powder, organic vegetables, organic fruits and wild caught salmon.

    Before Breakfast

    • Upon arising, drink a glass of water mixed with the juice of half a lemon. Also drink one teaspoon of psyllium powder in eight ounces of filtered water.

    Breakfast

    • Make an omelet with onions, cilantro and parsley. Take one tablespoon of flaxseed oil, or if you want you can take capsules instead. For the next six days, you can eat different veggies with your omelet. The key is to eat enough fibrous and detoxifying foods while on the cleanse. Cilantro and parsley are very effective in removing toxins and heavy metals from the body. You should always eat them with your salad or use them in recipes that call for herbs.

    Morning Snack

    • Eat a piece of fruit and drink at least 16 ounces of lemon water. Choose fiber rich fruits such as berries, kiwi and pears.

    Lunch

    • For lunch, eat four ounces of lean protein, such as wild-caught salmon (rich in omega-3 fatty acids), veal or organic lean chicken. Include two cups of vegetables, steamed or raw. Take one tablespoon of flaxseed oil.

    Afternoon

    • Drink 16 ounces of lemon water.

    Dinner

    • Dinner should follow the same pattern as lunch: four ounces of lean protein and two to three cups of raw or lightly steamed vegetables.

    Before Bed

    • Throughout the evening sip eight ounces or more of lemon water, and before bed drink eight ounces of water with one teaspoon psyllium powder.

    Tips

    • During a cleanse, the body rids itself of harmful chemicals through your kidneys, intestines and also through the body's largest organ, your skin. To maximize your body's ability to flush out toxins, spend at least twenty minutes daily soaking in a hot, steaming bath with two cups of Epsom salts. If you belong to a gym you could opt to sit in the sauna until you break a sweat.

Take hydrochloric acid with your meals. According to nutritionist Ann Louise Gittleman, "HCL is your body's front line of defense against bacteria and parasites. Low level of HCL leads to malabsorption, poor assimilation, and ineffective distribution of essential nutrients."

If you get hungry between meals, try eating seeds and nuts (pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, walnuts, Brazil nuts). These seeds are a good source of protein, minerals and essential fatty acids.

Take probiotics. Ann Louise Gittleman says, "In a healthy colon, an almost countless number of friendly bacteria, or probiotics, help cells do their defensive job. "

    Warnings

    • If you have a pre-existing medical condition always check with your doctor before starting a cleanse.
