Home Colon Cleanses
-
Herbs
-
The herbs that are generally used as part of home colon cleanses include wild rhubarb root, barberry root, red raspberry, alfalfa grass, shavegrass herbs, hawthorn berry, ginger root, cascara sagrada and bladderwack pods.
Hydrotherapy
-
Hydrotherapy is also called colonics or enemas. You can purchase hydrotherapy kits or hot water bottles with a hose attachment.
Diet
-
Home colon cleansing begins with eliminating processed foods, increasing fruits, vegetables, fiber and water. It is suggested that you do not mix carbohydrates with proteins since the body creates different digestive fluids that will slow digestion.
Fasting
-
Fasting as a home colon cleanse consists of drinking fluids for either 24 hours or longer. The fluids include water, a mix of lemon juice with water, or apple juice and salt water, at least once a day. No solid food is to be eaten during the fasting period.
Kits
-
There are several home colon cleansing kits on the market that consist of herbal combinations, hydrotherapy equipment, and recipes and menus for changing the way you eat (see Resources).
