How to Safely Follow an Apple Fast

An apple fast is like a spring cleaning for your body that can be performed in a single weekend. It can be used to cleanse the body while gaining perspective on the way your body uses energy. As the name suggests, the only solid foods you will eat during this fast are apples. There a few necessary pieces of information to keep in mind to follow an apple fast safely.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy a large bag of fresh apples at your local grocery store or produce stand. It is good to choose a few different types, such as McIntosh or Golden Delicious, to give yourself some variety during the fast.

    • 2

Select a weekend to do your apple fast. You should take about 2 days to follow an apple fast. Autumn is a great season to do apple fasts, as it tends to be the part of the year when apples are freshest and ready for harvest.

    • 3

Prepare your digestive system to follow your apple fast safely by following a strict diet the day prior to beginning the fast. Do not eat any carbohydrates, including bread, pasta and cereal during that day. Instead, eat only salad made of raw fruits and vegetables.

    • 4

Eat as many apples as you like during the days and nights of your apple fast weekend. It is important to eat all parts of the apple--except the stem, including the peels, core and seeds, remembering to chew each piece very well.

    • 5

Vary the way you eat your apples to keep your apple fast as stimulating as possible. Though you should only eat raw apples, you may chop, slice or grate them in any shape you like or even blend them with water to make a liquid.

    • 6

Avoid drinking all products that include caffeine during your apple fast, including coffee, tea and soft drinks. Herb teas that do not contain caffeine are fine to drink during your fast. Otherwise, you should only drink fresh spring water for the entire weekend.

    • 7

Use your apple fast weekend as a time of rest and relaxation. It is extremely important to avoid strenuous physical activity in order to complete your apple fast safely.
