What are the 3 required elements of sterilization?
1) Microbial death. All microorganisms, including endospores, must be killed.2) Irreversible change. The process must cause irreversible damage to the microbial cells, so that they cannot reproduce or regain their original form.
3) Absence of viable organisms. The process must result in the complete absence of viable microorganisms.
