How long should a thermometer soak in disinfectant before it is safe to rinse cold water and use on patient?

A Thermometer does not have to soak in any type of disinfection. Thermometers that come contact with a patient should immediately be wiped down using alcohol wipes (at least 70% isopropyl alcohol).
