Why is ti advisable to use normal saline solution rather than water?

Water should never be used in place of normal saline solution when flushing a wound because water can cause hemolysis, or ruptures of red blood cells. Water has a lower solute concentration than blood and can cause red blood cells to swell and burst when they come into contact with water. This process of osmosis causes the red blood cells to lose their contents, leading to the leakage of hemoglobin, which can potentially lead to serious health complications. Hemoglobin normally carries oxygen throughout the body, so its leakage from red blood cells can result in a lack of oxygen in tissues and organs. Additionally, the debris from the hemolyzed red blood cells can block small blood vessels, impairing blood flow and oxygen supply further. Using normal saline with a similar concentration of solutes to blood helps maintain the integrity of the red blood cells, preventing hemolysis and ensuring proper oxygen delivery to the affected area.
