Home Remedies to Banish Under Eye Circles
High-living and fatigue are not the main reasons for dark under-eye circles. These circles are sometimes shadows cast by puffy eyelids or pigmentation irregularities. Other causes for these dark circles include nasal congestion, sun exposure and thinning skin. Many medical procedures are available for removing these circles; however, the procedures are fairly expensive. A variety of home remedies can be done in the comfort of your own home to banish dark under-eye circles.-
Cucumbers
-
Slices of cucumber or cucumber juices applied to the skin around your eyes can reduce dark circles. Cucumber slices lighten the skin and also have a soothing effect. Lay cucumber slices on your eyes for at least five minutes, up to 10 minutes. Be careful when using cucumber juice or slices, because if you get the juice in your eyes, it will sting like crazy.
If you do not have a cucumber, you can use a potato.
Tea Bags
-
Take a pair of used tea bags (white, green or black) and allow them to cool. Make sure to squeeze any excess water out so it does not get in your eyes. Lie down on your back and apply the tea bags under your eyes. Leave the tea bags on your eyes for at least 10 minutes. Do not use herbal tea bags unless they are chamomile tea bags. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory properties that will help remove dark circles.
Tomato Juice Paste
-
This tomato juice recipe came from a model in India, according to Dark Circles Gone. Mix 1 tsp. of tomato juice, 3 to 4 drops of lemon juice, a pinch of turmeric powder and enough white flour to make a medium-thick paste. Apply the paste under your eyes and allow to sit there for at least 15 minutes. Wash the paste away with lukewarm water. This should lighten the dark circles and remove any puffiness.
Cold Washcloth
-
When washing your face, especially under your eyes, use a cold washcloth. Get a wet washcloth and put it in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes before you use it. Wipe your dark circles with the cold rag for about five minutes. Cold water helps to constrict blood vessels and can also reduce eye puffiness.
Water
-
Drink eight to 10 eight-ounce glasses of water per day. Water helps to cleanse your body of impurities, which can contribute to dark eye circles and puffiness.
