How to Treat Coughs With Spanish Onions

Coughing is a defense mechanism of the body that helps expel germs from the lungs and windpipe. It is a symptom of a number of ailments, including the common cold, asthma, pneumonia, acute bronchitis, whooping cough and croup in children. Onions and raw honey are effective for coughs, as they are both antibacterial. Onions are rich in sulfur compounds and vitamin C and have anti-inflammatory properties. Honey has been shown to reduce nighttime coughing and promote sleep.
