How to Make Anointing Oil From Frankincense & Myrrh

The practice of anointing with oils is as old as the Bible and was one of the ways in which ancient Jews and Christians purified and consecrated their bodies. Both frankincense and myrrh are aromatic resins from trees native to the Middle East and are available in essential oil form. They also are anti-bacterial, according to the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library at UCLA, and might have potent medicinal properties.

Things You'll Need

• Frankincense essential oil
• Myrrh essential oil
• Olive oil
• 4 oz. glass bottle, preferably dark in color

  Purchase 1/2 oz. bottles of both frankincense and myrrh essential oils at a health food store or online. Make sure they are 100 percent pure--many oils are adulterated or diluted.

  Purchase a bottle of high-quality extra virgin olive oil.

  Add 30 to 40 drops of frankincense and myrrh per ounce of olive oil to the 4 oz. glass bottle. Shake well and store in a cool, dry and dark place.

  Shake contents vigorously before each use.

  Dab anointing oil on wrists, temples or forehead. Avoid contact with eyes, lips and any mucous membranes.
