Is Vinegar Good for Your Hair?

Women have used apple cider vinegar and rainwater as a beauty aid for centuries. Most claim that it makes the hair shiny and healthy. You may wonder if vinegar is good for your hair and be reluctant to use it. After all, your hair is your shining glory and you can't be too careful. There's good news. Vinegar helps the hair in a variety of ways. Those that use vinegar recommend organic apple cider vinegar for hair care.
  1. Prevention/Solution

    • Get rid of the white flakes with a rinse of apple cider vinegar. Vinegar has mild exfoliating properties and dandruff is nothing more than sticky skin cells flaking off. Some people believe that dandruff comes from a fungus called pityrosporum ovale. While the fungus normally lives on the body, those with dandruff have it go out of control. If this is true, the antifungal property in apple cider vinegar regulates it. Use 1 part ACV to 3 parts warm water. Allow the vinegar to penetrate the scalp and then wash your hair normally.

    Function

    • Balance the scalp's pH with apple cider vinegar. Vinegar is slightly acidic and rinsing with the vinegar helps to restore the balance of the scalp's ph back to where it belongs. Since there's a protective acid mantle on healthy skin, alkaline soap strips it away. If the acid mantle is normal, then the skin on the scalp eliminates waste properly and detoxifies itself. Put a tablespoon of ACV in 2 cups of warm water, distilled water if possible, and pour the mixture on your head. Wrap it with a towel and allow it to work for 15 minutes. Wash your hair as usual.

    Types

    • Remove the buildup from shampoo, conditioner and hair spray. Rinse your hair with vinegar to break up the old shampoo residue that sticks to the hair and makes it dull. Apple cider vinegar also strips away the hair spray build up and leaves your hair shining. Wet your hair thoroughly. Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and rinse your hair thoroughly. Wash and condition normally.

    Features

    • Close up the cuticle with apple cider vinegar. The outer sheath of the hair is its cuticle that is clear and protects the inside color pigments and hair cells. When you remove hard water residue from the shaft of the hair with apple cider vinegar it makes your hair shine. Some people use the vinegar as the last rinse of the hair in a mixture that contains 1/2 cup of vinegar to 1 quart of distilled water. The hair smells a bit like a salad for about a half hour but then the vinegar odor goes away.

    Effects

    • Eliminate candida. Candida is a yeast infection that affects all parts of the body. Apple cider vinegar helps to control it with its anti-fungal properties. It doesn't leave the scalp exposed to bacteria because it also has antibacterial properties to maintain the balance. Mix 50 percent warm water with 50 percent apple cider vinegar and pour it on the scalp. Shampoo after you let it set for a few minutes.

    Considerations

    • Mix up other natural beauty products with vinegar for healthy hair. Use 1 ounce of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 egg for your next shampoo. Put the ingredients in the blender and then use as a shampoo. Rinse it with a complimentary mixture made from herbs and vinegar. Use 1/4 cup fresh lavender (or other herb you favor) with a quart of boiling water poured over it. When the mixture cools, strain out the lavender and add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Use a cup as a final rinse. Store it in the refrigerator in a closed container.
