How to: Coriolus Versicolor Extract

Coriolus versicolor, commonly known as the Turkey Tail mushroom is commonly found in forests all around the world. Used as an important medicinal herbs in traditional Chinese medicine, coriolus versicolor has been studied by modern scientists in laboratory settings. Several compounds within this mushroom have been shown to possibly have profound effects on the human body, especially PSK, which shows promise in fighting different types of cancer. If you gain access to fresh or dried coriolus versicolor -- which are too tough to be edible raw -- the best way to enjoy their benefit is to make an extract. Although the traditional Chinese way of extracting the medicinal properties of mushrooms is through hot water extractions, alcohol tinctures are also a viable option.

Instructions

  1. Hot Water Extraction

    • 1

Fill a pot 3/4 full with water and place it over high heat until it boils

    • 2

Turn the heat down, when the water reaches the boiling point. Keep the temperature just below boiling, or at a rolling boil.

    • 3

Add the coriolus versicolor to the water and cover the pot with lid.

    • 4

Check on the brewing mushrooms periodically, making sure the water is not boiling and stirring the mushrooms around.

    • 5

Brew the mushrooms for three to fours hours, or until more than half of the water has been evaporated.

    • 6

The remaining water should be a dark and black, with a strong bitter taste. This is your hot water extract. Refrigerate it to prolong its life.

Close the jar and keep it stored in a cool place away from light, for four to six weeks.

    • 10

Open the jar and pour the alcohol extract through the strainer into another jar or bottle.

    • 11

Cap the jar or bottle and store your coriolus versicolor extract away from light and heat.
