Healthy Remedies and Treatment for Irritated Skin

Irritated skin can be caused by bug bites, chicken pox, eczema or sunburn. No matter how painful your irritated skin is, scratching can be a bad idea and will only make matters worse. There are plenty of healthy remedies available that can help to sooth your skin and bring you relief.
  1. Aloe Vera

    • Aloe vera can work to relieve your skin's irritation. Stinging from sunburn or painful blisters can be calmed by applying aloe vera directly to the affected area. Aloe vera gel can be purchased at almost any drug store or grocery shop. You can also break open an actual aloe vera plant leaf and use the solution inside. Aloe vera should always make your irritated skin feel better. If you feel worse after applying it or your skin becomes a darker shade of red, you may be allergic.

    Oatmeal

    • Although the idea may sound silly at first, oatmeal-based products work wonderfully for soothing skin irritation caused by chicken pox or poison ivy. The brand Aveeno sells many oatmeal products that can be used to treat skin. Oatmeal powder baths can be taken with cool or warm water twice a day to help reduce itching. There are also many oatmeal-based lotions for sale that you can rub onto your skin before bedtime.

    Vitamin E

    • Vitamin E is a natural skin healer. It is sold in oil form and can be rubbed gently with a cotton ball onto the inflamed area of your skin. Capsules of Vitamin E can also be helpful if you do not have a bottle of the oil. If you break open a Vitamin E capsule, you can squeeze out the gel and apply it to a rash using a swab. Vitamin E also works to help heal wounds without leaving a scar.

    Preventing Skin Irritation

    • Although there are plenty of ways to treat skin irritation, prevention is key. During the cold of winter, skin can easily become irritated from the frigid temperature of the outdoors. Always wear gloves to protect your hands from the cold. Use lotion each night so that the cold does not dry out your skin. Make sure to wear sunscreen in the summer when spending time at the beach or near the pool. When going into the woods for a hike, always wear protective, long clothing to avoid coming in direct contact with poisonous plants that can cause skin rashes.
