How to Locate a Dispensary

As the number of states permitting the sale of medical marijuana increases, so do the number of businesses where you can purchase the drug legally. But, unlike typical drug stores and pharmacies, the locations of marijuana dispensaries aren't widely known nor advertised. Eligibility doesn't necessarily mean availability. If you have a prescription for marijuana and its use for medical purposes is legal in your state, there are several ways to find the dispensaries in or closest to your area.

Ask your prescribing physician. The medical professional that is providing your care should be able to tell you where and how to meet your needs as a patient. Ask your doctor or a member of his/her staff for dispensary recommendations.

Search online for local marijuana dispensaries. There are websites, such as CannaCentral.com and PotSpot411.com, that specialize in providing information on the legal use of medical marijuana and where it can be purchased.

Research the guidelines and restrictions for purchasing medical marijuana in your state. Check the Active State Medical Marijuana Programs listings at NORML.org.
