How to Clear a Cough
Coughing occurs as your body's natural defense mechanism to clear your throat. Even after getting past the worst stages of being sick, coughing can be one of the last symptoms to disappear. Over the counter cold medicines and suppressors are available to treat a cough. If you are looking to save money, there are some home remedies that can relieve coughing and help you loosen the phlegm in your throat. - Lemon juice
- Black pepper powder
- Salt
- Garlic clove
- White ground pepper
- Cayenne pepper
- Green tea
- Honey

Cut a lemon into quarter slices using a knife. Sprinkle black pepper powder and salt on the inside of the lemon, enough to cover the inside of the slice. Place the lemon slice in your mouth and suck on it to relieve harsh coughing fits.

Pour a teaspoon of honey on a spoon. Sprinkle a pinch of white ground pepper on the teaspoon of honey. Place the spoon into your mouth and swallow the honey pepper mixture. Perform this step two to three times a day, for four to five days to relieve coughing symptoms.

Blend a clove of garlic and a pinch of cayenne pepper with honey and form a mixture. Consume this mixture to allow the garlic to fight bacteria and loosen phlegm in your throat, as well as increase blood flow with the cayenne pepper.

Make and drink green tea to fight of a rough cough. Green tea contains several antioxidants to help with healing. Heat up the tea in a microwave for 45 seconds to soothe your throat and reduce coughing.

Purchase some over the counter cold and flu medicine. Many grocery stores offer medicine to clear a cough such as cough drops, cough syrup or cold and flu tablets or pills.
