Salvia Tincture Instructions
Salvia is a medicinal herb belonging to the mint family and is commonly referred to as sage. The two most popular herbal sages are the common sage, "Salvia officinalis," used in cooking and red sage, a Chinese herb known as "Salvia miltiorrhiza" or danshen.Salvia officinalis has been used to treat anxiety, sweating and menopausal symptoms. Salvia miltiorrhiza has been used to treat irregular menstruation and help increase blood circulation. It has also been used for insomnia and abdominal pain.
Things You'll Need
- 3 cups dried or 5 cups fresh salvia
- 1 quart 80 to 100 proof vodka
- 1-quart jar with lid
- Fine-mesh cloth or juicer

Clean the 1-quart jar with hot water and soap and let it dry.

Fill the jar with salvia, then pour the vodka over the top of the herb, making sure all of it is covered.

Seal the jar. Let the salvia steep for six to eight weeks in a dark place, shaking the jar gently every other day.

Pour the tincture through the mesh cloth, squeezing the saturated herb to strain all of the liquid, or put the tincture in a juicer to extract the medicine.

Put the tincture in a storage container with a tightly sealed lid and date and label it.
