Neem Organic Products
Azadirachta indica, or neem, is a tree that grows in the subtropical Far East in countries such as India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. It has been used for over 4,000 years in a variety of applications and is the subject of intense study and research by biopharmacologists due to its powerful chemical properties. Neem trees grow fast and do not require the use of fertilizers or pesticide, so many neem organic products are readily available for consumers around the world.-
Medicine
-
The people and cultures of Southeast Asia and India have a long tradition of using neem to treat a number of diseases and parasites. Every single part of the neem tree exhibits high antimicrobial activity. It is made into salves and infusions to treat skin conditions, infections and reduce swellings. Neem was also used in the past to teat leprosy, and even one of its names in Sanskrit is 'pichumarda,' with pichu meaning leprosy. A traditional treatment for malaria is to mix neem with ginger and coriander. Other organic neem products are made to treat anorexia, dysentery, jaundice and worms.
Pest Control
-
Neem organic products are often used for pest control by organic gardeners. Neem-based pesticides control common garden pests by disrupting their feeding habits and life cycle. In this way, they do not affect the plants or other organisms. Also, pests typically do not develop resistance to neem organic pesticides, so they are effective over long periods of use.
Farming
-
In addition to being used as a pesticide, farmers can use neem to help condition their soil. Urea is typically added to soil to induce nitrogen formation. However, uncoated urea reacts quickly and all at once, so the nitrogen load is used up at the beginning of the growing cycle. If urea is first coated with neem before being applied to the soil, it will cause the nitrogen in the urea to convert slowly and throughout the growing season. This process makes nutrients available to plants throughout their growing process, enhancing their productivity.
Skin Care
-
A variety of neem organic products are available for skin care. Lotions, soaps and deodorants that contain either a neem leaf extract or neem oil have antimicrobial properties that will eliminate infection-causing bacteria from your skin. This will help to reduce conditions such as rashes, acne and psoriasis. Neem can be applied to cuts, bruises and wounds in order to reduce inflammation and redness. Choose skin care products with an Azadirachtin content of 1500 ppm or more to ensure you are using a high quality neem product.
