How to Convert Black Cohosh Powder to Tincture
Black cohosh is a perennial herb that grows in the eastern forests of the United States and Canada. Tinctures are solutions of concentrated herbal extracts that keep for long periods with alcohol as a preservative. Tinctures are useful for herbs that are bitter or taste bad. The best use for this tincture is externally as a liniment. Black cohosh is an astringent herb, therefore it has the ability to loosen and expels mucus of the bronchial tubes and stimulates the secretions of the liver, kidney, and lymph. It's bitter astringent properties, acts as a repellant for bedbugs and other insects.Things You'll Need
- 4 ounces of powdered black cohosh
- 1 pint of alcohol (vodka, brandy, gin or rum)
- 1 glass container with tight lid
- 1 cheesecloth strainer

Choose one of the following: vodka, brandy, gin, or rum. Pour 1 pint into the glass container.

Stir in 4 ounces of powdered black cohosh.

Screw the top on tightly and shake until mixture blends without lumps

Store in a cool room about 72 degrees. Do not put in a window or in sunshine. Do not store in the refrigerator. Label contents with date.

Shake once every day for the next 14 days.

On day 15 do not shake. Check to see that the herbs have settled to the bottom

Pour off the tincture through a cheesecloth strainer into another glass container that has a top to make it airtight. It is ready to use.
