The nutritional supplement Saw Palmetto is available in a variety of forms: liquid extract, powdered capsules, tablets, tea, and crushed berry in capsules. Buy the standardized extract of Saw Palmetto labeled as 85 to 95 percent fatty acids and sterols. The berry capsules may seem like a cheaper alternative to the extract but they do not provide the fatty acid sterols required for healthful benefit. Ingest Saw Palmetto by itself. It can interfere with the absorption of other herbs or supplements, such as iron, regardless of the form you choose to take.

Take a 160 mg capsule twice daily or a 320 mg capsule once a day with water or juice. Take no later than 7 p.m., if you're treating prostrate enlargement, to reduce pressure on the bladder from liquids.
