How to Mix Oregano Oil with Sweet Almond Oil

Oregano oil, also referred to as oil of oregano, is extracted from the leaves of wild oregano; this plant, however, should not be confused with the common oregano found in spice racks. Studies, including those performed at as the University of Tennessee and Georgetown University, have shown that wild oregano contains carvacrol and thymol, which have powerful antibiotic and cleansing properties. The strong nature of oregano oil requires that it be diluted before use; the sweet nature of sweet almond oil makes it a perfect companion.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the desired amount of oregano oil into a cup. Oregano oil has a very strong, earthy taste, so use sparingly. A typical serving is 3 drops.

    • 2

Place the desired amount of sweet almond oil into the cup with the oregano oil. Since the almond oil is acting as a carrier for oregano oil, use at least a 2:1 ratio for the oil mixture. For example, for a typical 3-drop serving of oregano oil, add at least 6 drops of sweet almond oil.

    • 3

Stir the mixture. If the mixture is not used right away, the two oils may naturally separate. Restir the solution if necessary.

    • 4

Apply the oil mixture to the desired area of use. If you are ingesting the solution you may add it to juice to further cut the strong flavor.
