How to Make Antifungal Tea Tree Oil
A native to Australia, Melaleuca alternifolia is more commonly known as the tea tree plant. The leaves of the tea tree plant contain a volatile oil which is highly valued for its anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Commonly added to holistic and mainstream products to treat infections, reduce odor and promote wellness, tea tree oil can also be made at home for use in homemade cleaning products, first aid care, and skin care.Things You'll Need
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Tea tree leaves
- Double boiler
- Strainer
- Funnel
- Amber glass bottles

Cover tea tree leaves with extra virgin olive oil in the top of a double boiler. Fill the bottom of the double boiler with hot water. Do not mix oil and water. The leaves should be packed, and there should be enough oil to submerse the leaves without excess.

Place the double boiler over the lowest heat setting for 8 to 12 hours to infuse the olive oil with anti-fungal tea tree constituents. Do not allow the oil to boil.

Strain the infused oil to remove any plant material.

Use a funnel to pour the infused oil into an amber glass bottles. Screw the lids on tightly and store in a refrigerator until usage is required. Infused oil can last up to 12 months when stored properly. Label all bottles clearly as tea tree oil.
