A PH Drift Caused by Ionic Silver
Silver is a necessary element for proper physical functioning with a normal level of body silver needing to be approximately one milligram. Silver supplements can be colloidal or ionic -- the difference being the total amount of silver ions contained in the solution. Silver can cause changes in pH balance in the stomach and esophagus in both its colloidal and ionic forms. However silver is considered a nutritional supplement, and as such none of these statements have been evaluated by the FDA.-
Ionic Silver
-
Ionic sliver is created through the process of electrolysis, where silver ions are stripped off of a silver conductor into water through the application of electricity. Silver ions are the same as silver molecules except that they lack one electron giving them an ionic charge which allows them to dissolve in water.
Colloidal Silver
-
Colloidal silver is nanoparticle silver suspended in water. This gives the liquid a cloudy look as opposed to a clear look from a full solution. Colloidal silver is prized for its antibacterial qualities and will stand up well to the rigors of the digestive system to be able to enter the blood stream.
Acid Neutralization
-
Ionic silver reacts chemically with the hydrochloric acid in the stomach to strip off the chloride molecules and form silver chloride that is then expelled from the body in urine. Ionic silver water can be used as a treatment for acid reflux (i.e. heartburn) since it shifts the pH of the stomach acid by removing some of the chloride molecules.
Enzymatic Neutralization
-
Colloidal silver is thought to have antimicrobial effects that prevent the bacteria, fungus, and viruses in your body from being able to aspirate, or breathe, normally causing them to suffocate. This will result in a decrease of the enzymatic creation of stomach acid which causes acid reflux. A reduction in the production of acid will cause the overall pH level of stomach acid to drop.
