What Is Eleuthero Extract?

Made from the root, stem or bark of the eleuthero shrub, eleuthero extract is reported to have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for almost 2,000 years. It is commonly referred to as Siberian ginseng, although it is not scientifically classified as being a member of the ginseng family. It mainly grows in the mountains of northern China and Siberia.

    • In traditional Chinese medicine, Eleuthero is believed to increase vital energy (known as "qui" or "chi"). It is often taken to improve circulation, increase blood circulation and boost mental alertness.     Warnings

    • Herbal and traditional medicine practitioners have warned that this herb should not be used by pregnant women. Some studies have also found it is unsuitable for those with high blood pressure.
