Clove Oil Treatments

Clove oil is the essential liquid extract from the clove herb. In alternative medicine, clove oil is used alone and in combination with other oils, herbs and medicines to treat a range of health conditions and minor ailments. Eugenol, the most prominent active chemical found in clove oil, has antifungal and anticeptic properties, making it an excellent alternative treatment for cuts, scrapes and other skin conditions.
  1. Upset Stomach

    • Clove oil, when ingested in water, has been known to ease stomach pain and quell nausea. There are several methods of administering clove oil to treat a stomach ache. The simplest way is to add a few drops to an 8-ounce glass of water. Some advise taking clove oil with sugar to treat stomach pain. Adding a few drops of clove oil and honey in warm water is another method for easing nausea and stomach pain.

    Mouth Pain

    • One of the most common uses of clove oil is for toothaches and minor mouth pain. Historically, dentists have used clove oil as an anesthetic during procedures, and as a disinfectant during root canals and other invasive procedures. You can use clove oil as a treatment for minor mouth pain by dipping a cotton swab in pure clove oil and applying it to the painful spot. Alternatively, you can treat toothaches and mouth pain by adding a drop of clove oil to a cup of tea, or by suspending clove oil in water to make a powerful antiseptic mouth wash.

    Itching Rash

    • Clove oil can soothe itchy rashes and skin irritation associated with conditions like scabies, when applied topically or as part of a compress. According to Medical News Today, clove oil demonstrated its ability to kill the mites that cause scabies in a 2010 study. To use clove oil as a treatment for scabies or other itching skin conditions, dilute it with a mild carrier oil like grapeseed oil, which will dilute the powerful clove oil to a usable degree. Add one or two drops of clove oil to a teaspoon of your carrier oil to start, and adjust the intensity as needed.
