Can Women Use Procerin?

Procerin is a nutritional supplement marketed for male hair loss. The company states that the formula is not designed to treat hair loss in women, although the product is safe to use and may contain nutrients that may be of benefit to women.
  1. DHT

    • Procerin is designed to treat DHT or dihydrotestosterone, the most common cause of male hair loss. Men tend to lose hair in the front and top, rather than the back and sides of the head, according to Bernstein Medical. Female hair loss, or alopecia, is usually characterized by a general thinning of hair due to a variety of other reasons.

    Female Hair Loss

    • According to the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, female hair loss typically starts at 50 or so, later than for men. The causes include autoimmune disorders, stress and hereditary sensitivity to androgens.

    Nutritional Supplement

    • The manufacturers of Procerin claim that the formula reduces DHT levels. As a nutritional supplement containing herbs, vitamins, and minerals, the product is not subject to FDA approval, but it has GRAS status, or "Generally Recognized As Safe."
