Turmeric has long been known for its health effects, but it is an organic chemical and thus has a chemical composition. Turmeric is made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.

    • Turmeric is an organic antioxidant phytochemical known as a polyphenol and has the chemical composition of C21H20O6. That breaks down to 21 carbon atoms, 20 hydrogen atoms and six oxygen atoms.

    Side Effects

    • According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, turmeric is generally safe for the public, but in high doses can cause indigestion, nausea and diarrhea. Also, people with gall bladder problems should not take turmeric as it may cause symptoms to worsen.
