How to Extract Turmeric Juice
Turmeric, a common cooking spice, is a member of the Zingiberaceae family, and has a similar rhizome to ginger. It has gained attention in the scientific community for its potential health benefits, especially in the areas of cancer, inflammation and alzhiemer's treatment. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, curcumin, an active component of turmeric, may also improve digestion by stimulating the production of bile. Additionally, it may extend remission time in people with ulcerative colitis and may be useful in treating colorectal cancer. Although concentrated turmeric extract is available as a supplement at most health food stores, it is a straightforward process to extract the juice from the rhizome.Things You'll Need
- Centrifugal juicer
- Turmeric rhizomes
- Strainer with handle
- Liquid measuring cup
- Drinking glass
- Knife
- Cutting board
- Kitchen cloth or paper towels
Instructions

1
Prep the turmeric rhizome by washing it and removing all traces of dirt and grit. Cut off any bruised or spoiled sections of the rhizome. Slice the rhizomes into smaller pieces if they look too large to fit into the mouth of the juicer.
-
2
Assemble the juicer by following the manufacturer's directions.
-
3
Place the strainer over the top of the liquid measuring cup. The strainer will prevent the turmeric pulp from draining in with the juice. Place the juicer in a safe location on a counter top and leave the measuring cup under the juicer's drain spout.
-
4
Plug the juicer into an outlet and start juicing the turmeric rhizome. Place each piece of rhizome into the juicer one at a time, allowing a few seconds between each piece. This helps to prevent the juicer from becoming unbalanced.
-
5
Continue juicing the turmeric until you have reached the desired quantity of juice. Turn the juicer off and unplug it from the outlet. Pour the turmeric juice into the glass and enjoy.
-
6
Disassemble and clean the juicer. Wipe any spilled juice with a cloth.
