Cobweb Thistle Plant
The cobweb thistle is also known as the plume thistle; the scientific name is Cirsium occidentale. This type of thistle will attract butterflies. It is found in western North America. There are several different varieties.-
Physical Description

The cobweb thistle can grow to heights of two to four feet. The leaves are gray and hairy and shaped like a lance. The flowers are violet to red in color and the bracts of the flower are covered with the cobwebby hairs that give the plant its name.
Geography

The cobweb thistle is native to western North America. It can be found in southern Oregon, California, western Nevada and southwest Idaho. There are several different types of cobweb thistles, each of which is specific to one location.
Medicinal Uses

The stems and stalks of the plant are a diuretic and can have a cooling effect. The thistle is frequently used for medicinal purposes as it contains compounds that reduce hemorrhage and inflammation. it is frequently used to stop bleeding. The stems can be skinned and are eaten raw.
