Natural Treatment for Hair Loss and Baldness

Those who suffer from hair loss, also known as alopecia, do not always have to use pharmacological interventions. However, the effectiveness of these remedies will depend on the cause of hair loss and other factors. Although considered "natural" treatments, some remedies may still need to be provided under the supervision of qualified medical personnel.
  1. Assisted Therapies

    • Two of the natural treatments for hair loss and baldness include immunotherapy and phototherapy. However, not all immunotherapy may be natural, depending on the allergen introduced. Phototherapy uses light as stimuli, and may have limited effects.

    Herbs and Supplements

    • Supplements such as biotin and zinc can help in the treatment of hair loss. Biotin and zinc occur naturally in vegetables such as carrots and romaine lettuce, and people who receive enough in their diets should not take these supplements. Saw palmetto and beta-sitosterol are other options.

    Aromatherapy and Massage

    • Massaging the scalp with oils such as thyme, cedar-wood, lavender, and rosemary may help treat baldness. Massage alone can increase circulation and enhance hair growth.

    Effectiveness

    • The effectiveness of treatment will depend upon the cause and the extent of the hair loss. There are indications that inherited baldness is more difficult to treat, and surgical or pharmacological interventions may be necessary to regrow hair, when possible.
