Wheatgrass for Skin Problems
Prepared by sprouting wheat seeds in water for seven to 10 days, people use wheatgrass to prevent and alleviate the symptoms of disease. Wheatgrass comes in the form of juice, cream, extract, pills and spray. A natural source of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants, wheatgrass can detoxify the body and augment hemoglobin production. Also taken to prevent cough, chronic fatigue syndrome, improve digestion and prevent grey hair, wheatgrass remains a popular health supplement (see Reference 1).-
Blemishes and Sunspots
-
When applied regularly to the skin, wheatgrass juice fades blemishes and sunspots overtime. It also gently cleans and tones the skin. Wheatgrass stimulates the growth of healthy new skin and tightens older skin leaving it feeling smooth (see Reference 2).
Burns/Sunburns
-
The chlorophyll in wheatgrass soothes the pain of a burn along with triggering tissue growth, vastly reducing healing time. Known to reduce pain within hours, wheatgrass helps reduce scar formations. Apply first aid to your burn, then immediately apply wheatgrass juice. Cover the burn area with a non-stick dressing. Repeat daily (see Reference 3).
Alopecia Areata
-
Alopecia Areata causes round patches and sometimes complete hair loss. Wheatgrass contains molecules that stimulate growth activity, creating an environment for dormant hair follicles to reactivate. It also has positive effects on other auto-immune conditions, such as psoriasis and acne rosacea. Apply wheatgrass cream or juice two times a day. You should expect good results in two to three months (see Reference 3).
Eczema/ Dermatitis
-
Eczema causes itchy and scaly rashes. Wheatgrass softens to skin around the fissure to allow more movement of stiff tissue and reduce pain. Apply wheatgrass spray two to three times a day. You want to avoid creams for eczema as they can produce allergic reactions (see Reference 3).
Ingrown Toenail
-
Wheatgrass can take away the redness, pain and swelling that accompanies an ingrown toenail in just a few days. Apply wheatgrass juice, cream or spray to the area and cover with a light dressing once a day (see Reference 3).
