DMG Supplement Benefits
Dimethylglycine (DMG) is a molecule that can be created from the amino acid glycine or the compound choline. The compound can also be found in liver, beans and some other foods. Originally it was incorrectly classified as a B vitamin (B-15) but now it can be found as an additive to some nutritional supplements. Like many other supplements, DMG has had very few studies to prove its application to improve athletic ability or disease symptoms.-
Autism
-
A study compiled by doctor of cell biology, Patricia Kidd, shows that DMG may improve the condition of autism. In the study, DMG improved the cognitive functions of 31 out of 39 autistic children between the ages of three and seven. Other studies found little improvement between DMG and the placebo. DMG may promote speech, improve eye contact coordination and increase attention span in autistic individuals. DMG may also improve the production of antibodies in the deficient immune system of autistic individuals.
Seizures
-
According to Herbs 2000, DMG supplements may improve the symptoms of patients who are epileptic. It is thought that the compound reduces the amount of symptoms by improving the connection between various parts of the brain. There are no documented scientific studies that prove this, though there are anecdotal cases in which the supplement has been effective.
Stamina
-
DMG supplements have been used as a nutritional supplement to relieve patients of energy disorders like chronic fatigue syndrome. According to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, DMG may be able to improve the body’s utilization of oxygen when it is experiencing a lack. For this reason, the supplement has been used by athletes in order to attempt to improve their athletic performance. Dr. Roger Kendell, a purported expert on the nutrient, believes that DMG can also increase muscle recovery and endurance after a difficult workout. The evidence for this benefit is still purely anecdotal.
Immunity
-
There are various conditions where DMG has been used in an effort to improve health. DMG may help to reduce the spread of systemic diseases such as lupus erythematosus. It has also been used during cancer treatments in an effort to prevent metastasis. This is thought to be a result of its antioxidant, anti-stress and pro-immunity effects on the body. It is best to consult with your doctor to ensure that the use of this nutrient is right for you in case you are afflicted with one of these conditions.
