How to Use Bloodroot Internally

Bloodroot was used in colonial America as a wart remedy and by Native Americans to stain their skin during ceremonial dances and as a fabric dye and herbal cure. A member of the poppy family, bloodroot produces morphine-like benzylisoquinoline alkaloids that are used in some cough remedies as an anti-spasmodic agent. You can use bloodroot internally for coughs, asthma or bronchitis, but see your physician if your condition persists and be aware of certain precautions.
