How to Use Eyebright Solution

Eyebright is an herb traditionally used to treat eye inflammation. While there is extensive literature supporting its use in the fields of herbal and traditional medicine, there is no scientific proof of its efficacy. In fact, some medical experts believe that using eyebright may actually cause cellular damage and caution that because herbal remedies are usually not sterile, they may cause eye infection.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a manufactured eyebright eyewash solution because it is more likely to be sterile. Check the label to make sure the solution contains only eyebright and water, with no alcohol or glycerin.

    • 2

Twist the top off the single-serve eye dropper and apply the eyewash liquid to a sterile cotton cloth. If you are using a bottle of eyebright eye wash with a dropper in it, use the dropper to saturate the cloth with the solution.

    • 3

Close your eye and hold the eyebright-saturated cloth against your eye two or three times a day for 10 to 15 minutes each time. If you need to actually wash your eye, fill an eye cup with the eyebright solution and bend your face down to the cup until your eye is immersed in it. Blink rapidly to clear your eye.
