Make a tea by steeping 2 teaspoons of dried marshmallow root in one cup of boiling water and let it steep for approximately one and a half hours. Strain the tea to remove the herb and rewarm it and sip slowly to treat sore throats.

Gargle with marshmallow root tea, sweetened with honey to soothe tender mouth and throat tissues. For sore gums, brush your teeth lightly with baking soda to which you add a few drops of marshmallow root extract.

Drink marshmallow root frequently to soothe stomach upset, peptic ulcers, constipation and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The tea may also help soothe and reduce the swelling of inflamed hemorrhoids.

Use marshmallow root tea as a wash to speed the healing of minor burns and superficial cuts and scrapes. You may make a compress and place it directly on the irritated site or fill a plastic spray bottle with the tea and spray the wound. Spraying marshmallow root tea on a sunburn eases the sting.
