Edgar Cayce Oil of Oregano Uses
Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) was purported to be an American psychic and channel who endorsed many alternative health and healing remedies, including the use of oil of oregano. This oil is extracted from the wild oregano plant, not from common oregano used in many countries to flavor food. Oil of oregano has several alleged health benefits.-
Kills Germs
-
Oil of oregano has two main compounds, carvacrol and thymol, which are said to have significant effects on harmful microorganisms that cause illness in humans. The oil is antiseptic, antiviral, antiparasitic, and antifungal and is believed to ward off infections.
Skin Irritations
-
A diluted solution of oil of oregano applied directly to the skin is said to clear up skin infections, itching and irritated gums. It is said to work well against eczema and fungus, such as Athlete’s foot. It can also be used on insect bites and diaper rash, according to Dr. Cass Ingram, author of "The Cure is in the Cupboard." Gargling with water infused with the oil is said to cure a sore throat almost immediately.
Digestive Problems
-
Mixing two or three drops of oil of oregano is said to calm digestive problems and cure an upset stomach. Oregano is called one of nature’s finest preservatives, and it is believed that eating it with a meal reduces risk of food poisoning.
Sinus Issues
-
This same solution, used over a span of three to five days, is recommended to clear up sinus and allergy problems, given the herb’s purported decongestant properties.
Cold Symptoms
-
To stave off a cold, two or three drops of oil of oregano mixed in an eight ounce glass of orange juice is recommended to boost immunity and lessen cold symptoms.
Joint Pain
-
Oil of oregano is an anti-inflammatory and is said to relieve joint pain and arthritis. A few drops massaged into the skin is said to bring relief without the side effects of corticosteroids.
