How to Use Astringent to Stop the Pain of a Urinary Tract Infection

Urinary tract infections, commonly referred to as an UTI, occur when E. coli bacteria from the digestive tract enter the urethra, cling to the opening and begin to mature. E. coli bacteria commonly thrive in the colon and, when affecting the urethra, can create a painful infection in the kidneys that will produce burning, irritation and painful urination urgencies. Herbal astringents such as the uva ursi leaf can relieve UTI pain and naturally assist the body's immune system to fight off the E. coli bacteria infecting the kidneys.

Uva ursi contains hydroquinone derivatives that are absorbed by the stomach's lining and converted into a liquid substance containing antimicrobial, astringent and disinfectant capabilities that are passed through your urine. Uva ursi can also reduce the burning and irritation when urinating.

Strain the leaves from the fluid. Pour the uva ursi-flavored water into a coffee mug and heat in the microwave for 90 seconds.

    • 4

Drink the uva ursi tea three to four times daily for one week to relieve UTI pain.
