Non Prescription Nail Fungus Treatment

Onychomycosis, commonly called nail fungus, is caused by dermatophytes. Dermatophytes are a group of fungi that feed on keratin found in the nail bed. The fungus causes deterioration of the nail. Nail fungus can grow in both fingernails and toenails. You can try several home remedies to eliminate the fungus.
  1. Oregano and Olive Oil

    • Oregano is effective against nail fungus because it has anti-fungal properties. Mix one teaspoon of olive oil with oregano oil. Apply oil daily to the nail bed. Do not use for more than three weeks.

    Listerine

    • Listerine mouthwash can be used as an antiseptic. Soaking toes in Listerine helps fight fungus and clean nail beds. Listerine also gives nails a healthy appearance.

    Tea Tree Oil

    • Tea tree oil is a fungicide and antiseptic. Apply several drops of tea tree oil to nails and rub in thoroughly. The oil also can be applied with olive oil and using a cotton ball.

Tea Tree Oil and Lavender Oil

    • Lavender oil prevents irritation and fights infections. Tea tree oil can be used as an antiseptic. Combine both oils on a cotton ball and dab on the affected area three times a day.

    Apple Cider Vinegar

    • If the fungus is just on your toes and not your fingers, try mixing equal parts of natural apple cider vinegar and warm water. Soak your feet for approximately 20 minutes to help fight infection. Thoroughly dry the feet and toes, and then use a warm hair dryer to absorb remaining moisture.
