Burdock Root Cures

Burdock root is an herb that's been used in a variety of traditional remedies by a number of cultures. It's been used by ancient Chinese herbalists, as well as Russian and Indian herbalists. In the modern age, burdock root is used by oncologists, and it's properties as a diuretic are valued in many fields of medicine. Burdock root is used to treat and to cure a variety of conditions.
  1. Diuretic

    • Burdock root operates as a diuretic, or a substance that increases the discharge of urine. Diuretics are often given to help cleanse a person's blood of toxins naturally. Burdock root is used in this capacity to treat stomach and intestinal disorders, kidney and gall stones, promote sweating and control gout pain.

    Constipation

    • Another condition that burdock root is taken for is constipation. While the roots hold a number of beneficial nutrients, such as iron, which allows them to be eaten as a vegetable, they also act as a gentle laxative. For more stubborn instances of constipation, burdock root can be mixed with stronger herbs that are more powerful laxatives to create a stronger effect.

    Cold and Flu

    • One of the most enduring uses of burdock root is to treat colds and flu, along with other respiratory conditions. Used in this capacity in China and India years ago, burdock root is ground up and put in tea. While not a cure for the common cold, tea made from burdock root can boost your immune system and provide the body with necessary nutrients for fighting off infection. Burdock root tea can still be found on the shelves in most stores, and many herbal remedy dealers sell burdock root powders that can be added to any type of tea.
