How to Add Supplements to Smoothies
Smoothies are a great way to enjoy fruit, and, with the addition of nutritional supplements, smoothies can energize you with vitamins. With supplements added to your drink, you don't have to worry about whether you are fully digesting tablets or gel caps--as with vitamins in capsules. Smoothies can also improve the worst tasting herbs and supplements.Things You'll Need

1
Use a blender, whether it is standard or an immersion blender. Many powdered supplements claim they blend instantly with water but this may not always be the case. To get the best taste and consistency, or if you plan to add fruit, a blender is a must.
-
2
Add frozen fruit first. If you are planning on using fruit in your smoothie, it is much easier to measure ingredients by adding the fruit before everything else. Frozen strawberries, bananas, peaches, blueberries and raspberries make great additions to smoothies.
-
3
Add fruit juice or a flavored kefir to the blender. Flavored liquids will help mask the taste of the herbs. Cover the fruit with liquid before adding any supplements as this will help to prevent any powders from sticking to the sides of the blender or cup.
-
4
Add liquid supplements. Pouring your liquid supplements in with the fruit and juice will help to thoroughly blend the flavors. Commonly added liquid supplements include multivitamins, herbal extracts, essential fatty acids and wheatgrass shots.
-
5
Cover your blender and mix the smoothie. Blend thoroughly, stopping the blender and using a spoon to loosen any whole chunks of fruit that missed the blades. Recover and blend again.
-
6
Add powdered supplements and blend thoroughly. This is the best time to blend powders and avoid them from getting stuck against the side of the container. Commonly added powdered supplements include multivitamins, spirulina or other chlorophyll rich powders, protein powders, single vitamins and minerals, powders for joint health, fiber supplements and probiotics.
-
7
Pour your smoothie into a cup and drink up. If one of the supplements tastes too strong, try mixing in a little extra juice to dilute the flavor.
