Water retention can be uncomfortable but there are natural vitamins and minerals that can help to reduce the fluids in your body. Vitamins that work as a natural diuretic and encourage the balance and function of the kidneys are the most effective. It is best to implement the appropriate vitamins into your diet to encourage your overall body health.

    • Vitamin B6 works to reduce water retention due to hormones. This vitamin aids the liver in metabolizing and breaking down estrogen and progesterone that encourages water retention. During the premenstrual period there are excess amounts of these hormones produces. To aid in premenstrual syndrome symptoms, take 50mg four times per day for five days prior to your monthly period.
      It is best to take vitamins B6 with the other B vitamins for the best results. Take 50mg of vitamin B supplements per day, but be sure to follow the recommended dosage because an over-consumption of this vitamin may cause nerve damage. Do not take more than 100mg per day of vitamin B6.

You do not need to consume a lot of sodium because your body naturally works to preserve it. It is best to keep sodium and sugar levels low if you are trying to reduce fluid retention.
      Herbs such as juniper berry, stinging nettle, dandelion and green tea have natural diuretic properties that work to reduce fluid retention.
