Is it Safe to Use Black Salve on Growths?
Black salve has been in use since the 1800s as a treatment for cancerous growths. The actual origins of the salve have been lost to history. There are five points to consider before using black salve.-
Test First
-
Have the growth tested for cancer first. While not dangerous, it is of no benefit to use black salve on non-cancerous growths.
Warning
-
Avoid black salve mixtures that contain sulfuric acid. This ingredient can lead to excessive scarring.
Zinc Oxide
-
Only use black salve mixtures that contain 30 percent or lower concentration of zinc oxide. Higher concentrations may work faster but may cause more scarring and discomfort.
Oil-Based vs. Water-Based
-
Water-based black salve mixtures dry out faster then oil-based ones, which may contribute to more scarring.
Follow Instructions
-
Follow the instructions that come with the mixture, and only do one or two growths at a time.
Summary
-
Black salve is safe to use on growths if you pay attention to the ingredients and follow all instructions. It is only considered effective against cancerous growths near the surface of the skin, however.
