Herbal Vaporizer Instructions

Herbal vaporizers transform herbs into a thin mist or vapor making the consumption gentle on the lungs and removing harmful elements common with inhaling smoke. Herbal vaporizers for medicinal and personal use require a technique that may require practice to perfect. It is important to understand the process and follow instructions for using an herbal vaporizer.
  1. Grind the Herbs

    • It is essential to grind your herbs correctly. If you don't grind the herbs enough they will not give the desired results. If you grind them so much they become a powder you will get no benefit from the herbs. If you use an herbal vaporizer regularly consider buying an herb grinder that will take the guess work out of grinding your herbs.

Herb grinders come in many different styles, like wooden grinders, aluminum with clear magnetic closure top, or Lucite with stainless steel pins that are dishwasher safe. A coffee grinder may be used as an alternative to an herb grinder. Grind the herbs first so they are ready to use in the vaporizer.

    How to Use the Vaporizer

    • There are many sizes, shapes, and models of herbal vaporizers but they all have the same basic components. Start the process by turning the vaporizer on and waiting five to 10 minutes for the vaporizer to heat up. The herbs are placed in the screen that is near the end of the hand piece. A small amount of the ground herbs are placed in the screen on the hand piece. Lightly pack the screen with about a tbsp. of herbs to allow the vapor to pass through easily. Tightly packing the screen with too many herbs will result in blockage of the vapor.

    Using the Vaporizer

    • Getting the right draw from the vaporizer may take a little practice. Drawing from the vaporizer is done by holding the hand piece next to the heating element. The tube with the mouthpiece goes into your mouth. As you draw from the vaporizer heat is drawn over the herbs, heating them and creating vapor that travels through the tube into your lungs. After each draw remove the hand piece from the heating element to avoid heating the herbs excessively. Draw quickly from the vaporizer to avoid burning the herbs, resulting in smoke. If you can control the temperature of the vaporizer to cool it somewhat you can draw slower. Replace used-up herbs with fresh when the herbs turn from green in color to brown or black, if you detect a burnt popcorn taste, or if the vapor stops.
