Herbal Ointment for Skin & Tissue Healing
Eczema, dermatitis and other conditions can irritate skin. Healing ointments for various skin conditions abound, and many of them contain herbs. Look for herbal-infused creams and ointments at health food stores. But consult your physician if you have a wound or skin condition that doesn't heal properly.-
Comfrey
-
Comfrey is touted as a first-aid remedy capable of healing skin and alleviating aches and sprains. Comfrey contains a compound called allantoin, which, when applied topically, heals wounds and restores tissue. It also helps curb infection of wounds and may help wounds mend, according to Dr. Christopher Robbins, author of "Natural Pharmacy." Look for ointments containing comfrey at health food stores and well stocked grocery and drugstores. Use according to package directions.
Chamomile
-
Chamomile is commonly used throughout Europe to treat skin irritations. Chamomile cream is a simple remedy that can soothe most mild skin irritations. Smooth on a cream containing chamomile twice a day for relief and healing.
Calendula Cream With Lavender
-
Add five drops of lavender essential oil to commercially prepared calendula cream to soothe and heal skin. Lavender has a calming effect on the nervous system. Calendula is an anti-inflammatory, as well as an anti-fungal. It is often called the Russian penicillin, because it is used there so frequently. Look for calendula cream at health-food stores or well stocked grocery and drugstores.
Consult your physician before using any herbal-infused skin-care ointment or treatment.
