How to Prepare Dandelion Root

  • 2 tbsp. dandelion root

      Pick fresh dandelions from your yard or a park. A handful should be more than enough. Cut the dandelion leaves about 1 inch below the crown of the plant. Clean and chop the dandelion root and leaves. Keep the dandelion root separate from the leaves.

      Bring 1 qt. of water to a boil in a 2-qt. pot. Gradually reduce heat to medium low. Add 2 tbsp. of chopped dandelion root to the boiling water. Adjust heat to low.

      Allow the water to simmer for approximately one minute. Make sure to keep the pot covered. After one minute, remove the pot from heat.

      Add 2 tbsp. of chopped dandelion leaves to the water. Allow the leaves to steep for 40 minutes. Strain the liquid and serve.
