How to Treat Gum Infections With Cardamom

Cardamom, also called eaichi, is one of the most sought-after spices in the world. It is the dried fruit of the Elettaria cardamomum plant and comes in the form of a pod. Inside the cardamom pod are seeds that contain oils believed to have healing powers. The pods are typically green in color but occasionally come in a bleached white color. Cardamom is traditionally used in Asian countries to flavor food, relieve headaches and cure impotency. You can also learn how to treat gum infections like gingivitis with cardamom.

Instructions

    • 1

Consult your doctor before attempting to self-treat a gum infection with cardamom. Your physician may prescribe additional medications or advise you to try a different course of treatment.

    • 2

Break open the cardamom pod with your fingers, exposing the seeds inside. Dispose of the hull and keep the seeds.

    • 3

Use your mortar and pestle to grind up the seeds until you have approximately 1.5 grams of ground cardamom seeds. This will be between one-fourth and three-fourths of a teaspoon.

    • 4

Take the dosage of ground cardamom seeds once daily, either mixed with a glass of water or tea, or sprinkled on food. The oils from the ground seeds have anti-inflammatory properties that can help to fight the infection.

    • 5

Repeat the daily dose of ground cardamom seeds until the infection has subsided. Consult your doctor again if it has not healed after seven days.
