How to Lower Blood Sugar Levels With Cinnamon

Whether or not cinnamon is an effective treatment to lower blood sugar is a matter of debate in the medical world. A study done by the Department of Human Nutrition found that cinnamon consumption lowered blood sugar between 18% and 29% in individuals with type 2 diabetes, but the Mayo Clinic cautions that most physicians do not view cinnamon as an effective diabetes treatment. If you do choose to use cinnamon to help control blood sugar, be sure to consult your physician and make sure that your blood sugar does not dip too low when cinnamon and diabetes medications are combined.

Add cinnamon to your cereal, coffee, tea, or toast. Studies suggest that adding between ¼ and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon per day will help control blood glucose levels. Sprinkle cinnamon over your oatmeal, or add it to your coffee grounds or tea before brewing. If you chose to buy cinnamon supplements, take them as directed by the package or your physician.

Continue consuming cinnamon every day. If you are diabetic, continue regular monitoring of your blood glucose levels, and stop taking cinnamon if your glucose is too low.
