Venapro Side Effects: Pain

Preparation H and Venapro both are used in the treatment of hemorrhoids. But while Preparation H and Venapro share many similar side effects potentially, there is one they do not share: pain. Only Preparation H is known to have the side effect of pain of the two hemorrhoid treatment options.
  1. Venapro

    • Venapro is an alternative medicine used in the treatment of hemorrhoids. Venapro contains two ingredients: witch hazel and horse chestnut. Both of these ingredients are herbs---not prescription drugs. However, one of the most common prescription drug products on the market used to treat hemorrhoids---Preparation H---also contains 50 percent witch hazel.

    Side Effect Warning

    • As an alternative medicine, Venapro has the potential to interact adversely with prescription medications and other alternative medicines or supplements being used. That is why your physician should be consulted prior to starting Venapro or other alternative medicines. Potential adverse drug interaction side effects are not known at present, and may or may not include pain.

    Witch Hazel and Venapro

    • The herb witch hazel, an ingredient in Venapro, is recognized as helping to relieve itching and hemorrhoid discomfort. It also provides relief, albeit temporarily, of burning and the irritation that accompanies it. And it helps to protect rectal areas that hurt due to hemorrhoids, according to the online website Drugs.com.

    Horse Chestnut

    • According to Drugs.com, horse chestnut is used to reduce pain and swelling from inflammation of veins and hemorrhoids. It works by improving blood flow to affected areas by reducing swelling.

    Side Effects

    • While both Venapro ingredients (witch hazel and horse chestnut) have potential side effects, pain is not specifically one of them, unless you consider the pain from other effects that may be experienced. In fact, pain is one of the symptoms that both helps to relieve in regard to hemorrhoids. Witch hazel can potentially cause bleeding. And the herb horse chestnut can cause the following side effects: stomach irritation, nausea, vomiting and dizziness.

Potential severe side effects from horse chestnut use can include fatigue, fever, eye and skin yellowing, and severe allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, swelling in the face, lips, mouth and tongue, as well as a rash, itching or hives).

    Significant

    • On the other hand, pain is listed as a potential side effect for Preparation H, which also contains witch hazel. And, Preparation H shares the common and severe side effects of horse chestnut as well.
