How to Use Horsetail Herb
-
1
Make horsetail herb tea to treat edema, internal bleeding and urinary infections. Steep 2 tbsp. of loose herb in 1 pint of boiling water for 30 minutes. Strain the herb out of the tea and sip one-half cup of the tea up to every 45 minutes throughout the day. Three cups of this tea can be consumed per day.

2
Make a decoction, or extract, of horsetail herb for the treatment of skin conditions, stomach ulcers and excessive menstruation. Simmer a handful of horsetail herb in about a quart of boiling water for at least 3 hours. Strain the liquid from the herb. After the liquid has cooled, the horsetail decoction can be sipped throughout the day and should be consumed within 24 hours.
-
3
Make a horsetail herb poultice to use for skin ulcers and other sores. Remove the powdered horsetail from four to five horsetail herb capsules, or use powdered herb, and make a paste by slowly adding a few drops of water at a time. Apply the paste to the ulcer or sore two to three times each day until the condition has improved. This paste can also be used topically for minor cuts and bruises.
-
4
Make a horsetail herb mouthwash or gargle for the treatment of mouth sores and bleeding gums. The mouthwash can be prepared by diluting a decoction of horsetail herb with water about half strength. Gargle and swish this two to three times each day.
